In accordance with the newly released regulation, Ethiopian will issue an AWB for all pets (Dogs) transported as either hand-carried or excess baggage. Given Ethiopia's classification as a high-risk country for Rabis, all esteemed customers are required to adhere to the following new regulations.

Shipper/ Passenger responsibilities:

• Health Condition: Dogs must appear healthy upon arrival.
• Microchip Identification: Dogs must have a microchip readable by a universal scanner.
• Age Requirement: Dogs must be at least six months old.
• CDC Dog Import Form Receipt: A receipt valid for a single entry only on the specified arrival date. The receipt shall be long version including a picture of the dog).
• Foreign-Vaccinated Dogs: A reservation must be secured at a CDC-registered Animal Care Facility (ACF). The flight should arrive at an airport with a registered ACF where the dog has a reservation.
• U.S.-Vaccinated Dogs: Must present one of the following government-endorsed veterinary documents, completed by a veterinarian:
  1. Certification of U.S.-issued Rabies Vaccination form (preferred), or
  2. A USDA-endorsed export health certificate issued before July 31, 2025 (valid option until July 31, 2025).

• US Government Employees: eligible to apply CDC Federal Employee Dog Import Authorization. Employee must be on official U.S. Government travel orders. The employees with a CDC Federal Employee Dog Import Authorization may arrive at one of the 18 airports with a CDC Port Health Station.

• Secure Reservation (Booking): passengers shall contact the below addresses to finalize the cargo booking formalities and must submit the required documentation at least 48 hours prior to flight departure.

• Handling Charges: the below charges shall be paid for dogs originating from ADD $300 for pets traveling in the cabin and $500 for pets transported in the hold. The charges might be different from other stations due to other charges by the local cargo handling agent.

• Ensure Document Consistency: Verify that all documents are valid and aligned, including the dog's breed description, microchip number, and coloring.
• Reservation Confirmation: Confirm that the reservation at a CDC-registered Animal Care Facility (ACF) matches the Port of Entry (POE) where the flight first arrives in the U.S.
• AWB Allocation: Assign an Air Waybill (AWB) number for tracking and processing.

Ethiopian Airline Cargo Acceptance Personnel (In case of Addis Ababa Originating)

• Document Verification: Ensure all documents are consistent and accurately reflect the pet's details.
• Weight Measurement: Record the pet's weight for processing.
• Form Completion: Fill out the acceptance form and retain a copy for records.
• AWB Issuance: Generate the Air Waybill (AWB) and provide a copy to the passenger.
